On Saturday, June 3, 2006 a group of ARES provided Communications for the annual Marengo Swamp Run fund raiser for Wish I Could of NE La near Hebert, Louisiana. This made the second year that the ARES group has provided communications. This is the 21st year that Wish I Could has held the Marengo Swamp Run. Wish I Could of Northeast Louisiana is a charitable organization that was created in 1984 to grant wishes to terminally ill children from the ages of three to eighteen years old in northeast Louisiana.

On Friday, June 2nd, several of us were there setting up the tower, getting the communications van ready and visiting. Brandon brought a cooler with all the fixings for hot dogs. He also had a new grill. In the afternoon Mark fired up the Grill and we had some good hot dog sandwiches.

On Saturday, June 3rd activity got underway early in the morning. ARES communicators were Mark (K5ER), Kevin (W5KGT) and John, Brandon (N5WLG), Alan (W5HUD), Melinda (N5MEL), Larry (N5ASA), Paul (W5PEM), BT (KE5HLT), Mack (KA5JNL), Randy (KE5ESU), Wallace (KE5HAZ) and Trey.  BT was a mobile communicator riding the course on a 4-wheeler.

The Wish I Could volunteers are busy ahead of time and the day of the event to make this run a success. A lot of time is spent at the location (pictured below) in Rayville selling registrations, selling raffle tickets, getting T-shirts and other things ready to sell.

These volunteers pictured below were working the day we were there with the camera.

Pictures were taken by Melinda (N5MEL) and Alan (W5HUD) designed the website.
